A weekend in Philly

Last Weekend, the Squash team made a 4 day trip down to Philadelphia to play in the annual High School Squash Nationals Tournament.
After an incredible season, the varsity squash team took the train down to Philadelphia on Thursday, February 22nd. We were placed into Division III (this year was a year for rebuilding and improving the team), and we had high hopes going into the tournament. We played at UPenn. On Friday morning, we had our first match against Louisville Collegiate, who was favored strongly against us. Unfortunately, despite really strong matches from the team, with clutch wins from Captain Khym ‘24, Kevin ‘26, and me, we fell 4-3.
The same night at 8:00 p.m. we played Delbarton, and with a very strong showing we were able to take them 6-1, and we celebrated with some pizzas.

We went to sleep that night, and woke up the next day for another match against the Hill school. Let me explain why this match mattered: afterall, we weren’t in the bracket anymore, and we could only hope to place ninth at best in the division. We had learned that our rival, St. Mark's, to whom we had lost earlier in the season due to injuries, had also lost their first match. With the same result of this match, we would play them in the following round. They had won. We had to win this match to survive and play St. Marks to get revenge. Inspired, we crushed Hill 7-0, and were getting hyped up to play St. Marks the next day.

After we had packed our bags the next morning, we made our way to Penn, warmed up, and locked in for St. Marks. They battled hard, but ultimately, we were victorious and, with a strong 6-1 victory, took back the trophy from the Lions, and made the long trek back to Groton. A happy finish to a rebuilding season, but a bittersweet goodbye to our Captain. See you in Hanover, Captain.
