    2018 - 2019
    Head Coach: Ron Mazzaferro

The Groton School basketball program under coach Harold Francis welcomes the return of Ron Mazzaferro to coach the J.V. team with Jake Kohn.

Coach “Mazz” has helped the Groton Varsity Boys Basketball program become much respected and a strong competitor in the I.S.L. After serving nine years as Groton School head coach, “Mazz” retired after the exciting 2011-2012 tournament qualifying season. Prior to joining Groton, Mazz was the head basketball coach at Leominster High School for 25 years. He coached such legends as current Maryland University assistant Scott Spinelli and the late Cleveland Cavaliers assistant coach Mark Osowski. He is a member of the MBCA 300+ win club.

Mazz believes the schedule that Groton plays gives young players the competitive experience needed to play at the next level. Groton has developed many talented players, as witnessed by 1000-point scorer Asenso Ampim (’07), who played at Columbia University and Conor Nordengren (’06), who played for Stonehill College. Another 1000+ point scorer, Andrew Daigneault (’10), helped Groton play very respectable games against the elite NEPSAC and ISL teams.

Having a player-coaching philosophy of “fair-firm-fun,” Coaches Mazzaferro and Nelson are looking forward to the challenge of developing a team that plays good basketball and improves as the season progresses.
