4-3 Win

Groton opened the season with our first ever match against a team from a public school. We hope the sport will continue to expand in this country!

Today's match turned into a tight one, with good competition up and down the ladder. Brookline's players were just too tough at the top two spots, but Tate Burgin and Walker Davey played some terrific squash to make their opponents earn their points. At the other end of the ladder, Cal Wilson's clean length kept his opponent on his heels from the first point to the last. Gus Vrattos went up 2-1 but his opponent staged a late come-back before Vrattos regained control to take the fourth. Garrett Johnson worked through four very close games, ultimately taking charge of the last few points to close out the fourth, 12-10. All of that left Groton up,3 - 2, with Aaron Jin and Gabe Scholl still on court and the team needing one more win. Jin ultimately lost in three close, competitive games. After taking his first game, Scholl survived a long second, winning it 18-16 and giving himself the momentum he needed to take the third game and, with it, secure the team's victory.
