Parents Weekend excitement, 2-3 against the BB&N Knights

Alternating cloudy, sunny, chilly, even a few raindrops, but a cheerful day on the Circle with loads of parents here for the weekend. BB&N took a quick lead in the first fifteen minutes, three goals, all on corners, the first two coming from redirects on the far post. A Groton time-out proved fortuitous as the girls came together as a hard-fighting team for the remainder of the game. BB&N is fast, and they seemed to have ball magnets in their sticks, so the Groton girls need to refocus, dig deeper and play smarter. They did, and though it took until thirteen minutes into the second half, the first Groton tally came when Cassidy Thibideau tipped in a Freddie Tobeason corner shot. Though the minutes wore down, the girls continued to battle, finding each other on the field, stopping the opposition on defense, and generating some good attack. Then with 43 seconds remaining, Caroline Wilcox found herself and her stick in exactly the right spot for goal number two, her first varsity score. Is 43 seconds enough to score another? Well, it turns out it can be an eternity. BB&N started with ball, moving deep into Groton territory, but Groton came up with the ball, took it down the field, controlling the play but not without challenges, and moved into the BB&N circle where they drew a corner as time ran out. The girls played the corner, but a decisive clear out of the circle ended the game with Groton down one. Disappointing to end with a loss, but a very exciting end to a good game.
