Rough Home Opener

Ted Goodrich
Though we were on our home field for the first time this season, the Groton side looked completely unfamiliar to the coaches, their parents, and themselves. When Galen Lewis broke through to score in the 20th and 31st minutes, we were unable to respond. Not until the second half, when we were already down 0-3, did Groton start to move the ball as they can. A third Lewis goal in the 67th minute made for a comfortable, happy game for the visitors. Walker Davey was relentless throughout the game, and Max Steinert (a header off the crossbar) and Mark Reiss did a nice job in the midfield in the second half. This game promised to be a wonderful, competitive match, but sadly didn’t live up to that billing. Hats off to Milton, who played extremely well.
