Athletes of the Week 9/26

Congratulations Alec Reiss and Angelika Hillios for being the Athletes of the Week, and to the Varsity Field Hockey team on being Team Of the Week with their 5-2 victory over St. Georges in the first game on the new turf!
Alec Reiss
“He scored a hat-trick to lead the team to a win in its opener on Saturday. While the entire team played well, it’s hard to overlook such an individual accomplishment. This is my eighteenth year at Groton, and I can’t recall the last time anyone had a hat-trick.”— Coach Goodrich, Boy’s Varsity Soccer

Angelika Hillios
“Angelika was able to keep our team alive throughout two very competitive games this week, against a strong Andover team and a talented St. Georges team. In both games Angelika made crucial saves that not only kept the team competitively in the game, but also gave her teammates momentum to score 3 goals in Saturday's game against St. Georges. Her ability in net is a major asset to the team, and we really look forward to see what she does in the rest of the season.” – Coach LeRoy, Meyer, and Giles, Girls JV Soccer

Varsity Field Hockey
The Varsity Girls’ Field Hockey team has already had a certain amount of wonderful press for the past Saturday, given the new field, but the girls played beautifully, as a team, taking full advantage of their new field and beating St. George’s 5–2. Five goals are a lot to score in one field hockey game, and all had numerous assists attached to them, making each goal a true team-wide effort, especially when the play started in our defensive end on one side, and the ball was moved back, across, and down the field before being fired across and into the goal. Moreover, leading up to finally stepping onto the field on Friday afternoon, the girls have been real troopers since the first day of preseason as we have had away practices nearly every day at Lawrence Academy (an easy trip) and Lancaster, adding nearly an hour to a practice.”
