A Big W for Coach Reichenbach's Birthday
Groton swept today: 25-18, 25-20, 25-10. Everything came together, including team-wide amazing serving—about 95% in with true aces by Sobenna Egwuekwe (IV), Chioma Ilozor (VI), Amelia Lee (IV), Maddy Son (V), and Rachel McMenemy (VI).
The team played aggressively, using back row attacks to keep the pressure on at all times. Especially good at these were Chioma, Alicia Guo (II), Rachel, and Amelia. Tireless setter Maddy was on fire, and she kept the other team's middles gassed by mixing up the offense. This strategic vision allowed our spikes to shine, including great hits by every single one of the players listed above.
Blocking was also a strength—with a special shout-out to Rachel (who had several plays with multiple blocks), Chioma, Alicia, and Sobenna. In fact, their blocks were so good, that the other team was forced to tip over them. This weakened their offense, which gave us an edge.
On one of our last plays of the game, Hutshie Faugas (VI) had a great pass, setting up Yumin Shivadasni (VI) for a smokin' down ball.
It was a great, great day. Congrats to the whole team, and happy birthday to Coach R!
