No Treat

On the final whistle Governor’s was ecstatic. It seemed an unlikely result, yet Gov’s dug deep and rode the shoulders of their keeper, CJ Baroni, to take three points on the day. It was Governor’s who jumped out in front in the 7th minute when Xander Barnes raced past the defense and lobbed Groton’s keeper. Following this, Groton applied constant pressure, but once again failed to finish many fine chances. Eventually, Jay Fitzgerald hammered home a Steve Perchuk cross to level the score, and it looked like Groton would claim the day.

Just ten minutes into the second half, however, it was Barnes once again slipping through Groton’s back line on the counter to score his second on the day.

The rest of the match was a steady stream of corner kicks and shots for Groton, but none found their way through. Connor Mooney anchored Gov’s defense in the second half, and with each blocked or saved shot, Gov’s found more energy.

Governor’s worked hard for the win and get to enjoy a far better Halloween than a disappointed Groton side will.
