Exeter had plenty left in their tank, however, as their squad was remarkably deep. They won in straight sets at #5 and #6 against Thaddaeus Flatz and Ladha.  Sam Lu at #4 lost his match barely, 6-4, 4-6, 5-10 (in the decisive tie-breaker.) Final score: Groton 4 - Exeter 3.

Reflected Señor Conner after the match: "Whether a 7-0 rout, or a squeaker 4-3, a victory is sweet in any form. I am so proud of these boys today. They truly played as a team, cheering each other on, and carrying themselves confidently in every way. To start a season knocking off Deerfield and Exeter is something that I will never take for granted. I am grateful to all the fans who came out to support Groton today, including Headmaster and Mrs. Maqubela."

The boys head to the Kingswood-Oxford tournament this weekend in Connecticut to take part in an eight team tournament featuring Hotchkiss, Choate, Deerfield, Westminster, Lawrenceville, Groton, Kingswood Oxford and  Hall School. Groton is the defending champion with a streak of some four consecutive titles. They hope to continue their winning ways.
