Good Start to the Year

Circle your calendars for the first Wednesday in April every year, because the Andover match never disappoints.

The reigning NEPSAC Class A Champions came into town and brought a strong team as always, but Groton was ready. Doubles saw Groton's #1 pairing continue their dominance over New England's top teams with a stunning 8-3 win. #2 doubles would swing PA's way after an intense fight. #3 doubles was a back-and-forth affair. In the end, the big serves of our third-form stars would shine. Groton would go into singles up 2-1.

Singles was competitive at every position. Groton notched the first point with a win at #2, followed by an epic second-set comeback at #5 to take a 4-1 lead. Andover was not willing to go down without a fight.

#1 was a slugfest, with Groton being toppled in a second-set tiebreaker. #3 Singles split sets and would go to a third set breaker that saw Andover prevail. #6 would go PA's way as well, and it all came down to #4.

The newest member of Groton's squad was poised to be the hero. Piercing backhands, huge serves, and heavy forehands led the way to victory. The girls celebrated in "Club Dub" with pizza and cake in honor of Leah's birthday.

The team raced off to the study hall with smiles on their faces. 1-0 to start the year.

Thank you to all the fans that came out to support the team. Special thanks to Groton Boys Tennis who stuck around after their thrilling 4-3 victory over Exeter.

Next match: Saturday, 4/6, at Deerfield.
