Cross-town rivalry!

The Groton girls ventured across town to Lawrence Academy, and after a slow start, falling behind quickly 0-2, they suddenly came to life, and the scoring juggernaut continued. At the end of the first period the score was 6-2, at the end of the second 10-4, and at the end of the third 14-4. Hazel Beastrom and Sunny Ma dominated the scoring with four tallies each, but this time, the scoring was also spread out through out the team; new arrival to the JV Lauren Ash scored two, Manon Farel scored the first two goals of her career, rookie Leia Motea scored her first career goal, and veteran defense player Julia Ehrgott scored one. What is really fun about watching this team is that they are working hard to help each other succeed; the number of generous passes to a teammate who is in good scoring position (and who has yet to score) is remarkable, and the excitement when the goal comes is heartwarming and heartfelt - all cheer and congratulate. The girls are beginning to look more and more like a true hockey team, with good passing, solid skating, feisty determination, and impressive positioning. Julia Ehrgott is showing her true competitive spirit on defense, back-checking fiercely, but loving the opportunity to take a coast to coast run. The energy and good humor this afternoon were simply fun, for all on the bench. We head into a much anticipated long weekend with a very big and challenging travel week when we return.
