A shoot-out!

A 5:15 start in Ashburnham did not quite work, as the girls varsities from Cushing and New Hampton still had a good game going. Their third period, an OT, and a penalty shot provided great inspiration for Groton’s JV girls. Hard skating, good teamwork, and lots of shots were the hallmark of today’s outing. Groton took the lead quickly and never gave it up, ending the first period at 4-1, the second at 10-4, and the game at 14-7. Hazel Beastrom found the back of the net six times . Eliza Brooks scored four times. Sunny Ma had three goals; a potential fourth did not count, a nanosecond after the second period buzzer; and she passed up another opportunity with a generous pass to a teammate, trying to give her a chance to score. Apple Zhu, who had set her sights on scoring, netted her first career goal. Cushing’s #16 proved to be a great threat, scoring all but one of their goals. As did we, they had more scoring opportunities, but Lena Aloise, as we have come to expect, was ferocious in the goal.
