Groton vs. St. Mark's

The Zebras ended their campaign on a bitter note, falling to historical rivals St. Mark’s 2-1 on a cold and blustery day.  It was a hotly contested match that threatened to spill over several times, with tackles flying in hard from the Lions.  St. Mark’s seemed determined to break up play whenever they could—an effective game plan that allowed them to sit deep and launch balls in search of their wingers.  Sixth Former Leo Serodio opened the scoring, netting after St. Mark’s keeper had brilliantly saved his penalty.  The Lions equalized in stoppage time at the end of the first half with a well taken shot into the corner that eluded Sixth Form keeper Ben Milner.  The second started in much the same fashion, with fragmented play preventing either team from making much headway into the attacking third.  The Lions benefited from a tight onside call in the 82^nd minute to send a looping rebound over Milner’s outstretched hands to take the lead.  While Groton pushed hard for the equalizer in the final ten minutes, they failed to test St. Mark’s keeper.
