Groton vs. Tabor

Coming into the match after two years of back-to-back draws, the Zebras were hoping to string together a strong 90 minutes against an athletic Tabor side.  The first ten minutes went according to script, with Sixth Former Leo Serodio again providing the incisive touch and firing past Tabor’s talented keeper.  The lead lasted for less than 45 seconds, as Tabor’s aforementioned keeper sent a searching 60-yard pass forward that eluded Groton’s defensive line, allowing the Seawolf’s forward to head home the equalizer.  The next 70 minutes comprised a relentless back-and-forth between two teams who both played relatively directly.  Finally, in the 81st minute, Third Former Ettore Monson stabbed home a wonderfully weighted free kick from Fifth Form Captain Will Klick to the delight of a considerable home crowd that gathered (it was Parents’ Weekend at Groton).  Tabor refused to wilt, however, and pressed Groton’s back line unceasingly over the remaining nine minutes of regulation and stoppage time.  Ultimately, the Zebra’s back line held firm, and Groton was able to celebrate a hard-earned win over the Seawolves.  Next up: the Zebras will play Governor’s away on 11/1.
