Excellent Late-Season Match

These two schools have a long history of close matches between strong teams and today added to that record. Milton and Groton came into this match with extremely similar team records and individual ratings so it was not surprising that points and games were won by narrow margins.

Groton came out of the first round of matches with a narrow 2-1 lead after Evan Khym and Carter Lightburn put together one sequence after another of excellent shots but Kevin Cai, despite excellent effort, could not avoid his crafty opponent's deadly short game.

In the second round of matches, the Groton captains stepped up. Despite their opponents' fitness, Will Vrattos and Ronin Kaplan played with great focus, balance, and ball control to come away with one point after another and ultimately win in three games. Meanwhile Tyler Santana wrestled momentum back from his opponent, working his way from 0-2 to 2-2 before ceding the final game. With the team match already at 4-2, Charlie Weisberg dropped his first game but then played patient, high-quality points to bring the edge back his way and win in four, ensuring that the team score would reflect the small but significant edge that Groton had over Milton this time around.
