Andover falls to Groton

In a long-awaited rematch, Groton hosted Andover on a picture-perfect New England spring day. Playing before many loyal fans, Groton came out very sharp, playing electrying doubles, winning the point with sterling play by all of the team's doubles players: Jared Gura, Ben Jones, Gabe Scholl, Powers Trigg, Matt Kandel and Andrew Yang. Kandel/Yang and Gura/Jones won stylish matches, while the other duo of Trigg/Scholl had a lead when the doubles point was clinched.

In singles, Matt Kandel played brilliant tennis beating a worthy opponent at #1. Scholl played well at #3, moving his opponent effectively all around the court. Third Former Ben Jones proved to be the clincher today, winning in straight sets at #6 with his tenacious style and talent.  A little later, Powers Trigg added another hard-fought win to the tally, putting Groton up, 5-0. Yang and Gura closed out the day by each losing close contests.

Said Señor Conner: "With this victory, Groton now has won twenty-six consecutive dual matches over two seasons. In this year's campaign, Exeter, Deerfield and Andover have now all fallen. I am very proud of the resilience of this group. They played some superb tennis today, beating a very strong team decisively."  The plan now is for a day off, and then Nobles heading into Long Weekend.
