Groton wins ISL Opening Match

Groton traveled to Governor's Academy on Wednesday for the opening ISL match. This year, the ISL changed formats, moving from a  team scoring 15 point system to the 7 point system that is played in colleges and in most high schools around the country. The team that wins two out of three doubles matches earns one point, and then one point is earned for each singles win.

Groton played very well, winning at every position. In doubles, Gabe Scholl / Powers Trigg, Aaron Jin / Andrew Yang, and Ben Jones / Jared Gura were all victorious. In singles, Noah Bay, Gura, Jones, Jin, Trigg and Scholl all won their matches. Gabe Scholl won in a dramatic fashion, saving a match point on the strength of a powerful second serve, before closing out the decisive tie-breaker. Gabe completed a rare feat for a Groton varsity tennis player: During his many year tenure on the varsity team, he has now represented Groton playing every singles position in the line-up: 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and 1. ¡Olé!

This weekend is Groton's home opener against St. Sebastian's.
