Football - Varsity
2022 - 2023
Head Coach: Jamie Lamoreaux
Captains for 2022–23: Bensen Han ‘23 and Luke Romano ‘23
Groton has a long and rich football tradition, dating back to its inaugural season in 1884, a mere fifteen years after the first intercollegiate game was played between Rutgers and Princeton in 1869. Our historic annual games with St. Mark’s represent the fifth oldest high school rivalry, dating back to the first clash in 1886.
The Groton Zebras play in the highly competitive Independent School League (ISL), which consists of sixteen New England preparatory schools. Though we are a small school, Groton over the years has fielded successful and highly competitive teams, and we are proud of our student-athletes who move on to compete at some of the finest academic institutions in the country. Members of our squad in recent years have drawn interest from schools in the Patriot League, NESCAC, the Ivies, and top engineering schools.
Though we embrace our football tradition, today’s Zebras are a fun mix of modern wide-open offense, operating out of the "spread shotgun" formation while playing an attacking, aggressive style of defense.
The coaching staff welcomes the opportunity to meet with any prospective Groton students who are interested in joining the football program. If you are interested in learning more about our program, please contact Coach Jamie Lamoreaux at email@example.com.
