Groton wins pitching duel at Middlesex

Groton pulled off a 1-0 victory on the road against Middlesex, as junior Josh Nam dominated on the mound all game long. Nam pitched a complete game, recording 7 strikeouts while scattering 5 hits and no walks. The lone run of the game came in the top of the third, when sophomore Walker Smith singled up the middle, took second on an errant pickoff throw, then scored on a pair of wild pitches. Middlesex’s best opportunity to score came in the bottom of the sixth, as a hit by pitch, single, and wild pitch put runners at second and third with one out. Walker Smith made a great diving play coming in from center field on a pop up that threatened to fall in behind the drawn-in infield, then hauled in a line drive to center to get out of the inning. Nam also had a pair of hits at the plate for Groton, who put runners in scoring position in 6 of the 7 innings but couldn’t get a hit in those situations to break the game open.
