Team Effort

Tabor's top three players are dominant so for today's match to go Groton's way, the remaining four players all needed to come through. After training hard and well in practice, the Groton team was ready for that pressure. Carter Lightburn, Charlie Weisberg, and Jack Lionette played with focus and determination, taking charge of their matches and winning in three games. The pivotal match of the day was Tyler Santana's. Facing a fit and determined opponent, Santana dropped the first game but then dug in to win two close ones, 11-9 and 12-10, only to see the Tabor player find new life and even the match with an 11-6 fourth game. In the fifth, Santana's experience carried the day as he continued his determined play through long points and added sharp drop shots to close out the 56-minute match, 11-5. There was only one possible path to victory in this contest between league rivals and the Groton team followed that path.
