Groton Girls Shine in Historic Win Over BB&N

The rain stayed away and the stars came out to play as Groton and BB&N met for an unforgettable day of tennis, one filled with top-tier competition, milestone moments, and shared memories.

Doubles kicked off the day with dominant performances from the Groton girls. At #2 and #3, Groton played at an exceptionally high level to sweep their matches convincingly. The #1 team found themselves in an early hole, but battled back with grit and determination to complete a clean 3-0 sweep heading into singles.

The momentum carried into singles, where Groton continued their inspired play. Quick wins at #2 and #5 sealed the overall team victory. Matches at #1 and #4 were closely contested, with the two schools splitting the points.

On court #3, Groton's Ella Farahnakian was locked in a steady, methodical battle. Despite a buzz of excitement growing outside the court, the players stayed locked in. Ella’s focus and determination paid off,  she clinched the win and, with it, her 100th career match victory in a Groton uniform. She becomes just the second player in program history to reach this milestone, and notably, the first to do so without the advantage of a second form year. An incredible achievement by an outstanding athlete and person.

As the day wound down, all eyes turned to the final match at #6 singles, a fiercely fought contest that brought members of both teams together. In a unique twist, players and supporters shared ears of corn on the cob courtside, highlighting the camaraderie and spirit of the day.

Groton ultimately emerged with an 8–1 win, but the biggest victory belonged to both teams, for their effort, attitude, sportsmanship, and the friendships formed along the way. It was a beautiful day of tennis in every sense.

Up next: the long haul — a weekend road trip to St. George’s.
