Stripes Earned

For the first time in five years, Groton hosted Middlesex outdoors! On a hot, humid afternoon with storms threatening overhead, the Zebras took to the courts determined to defend their turf.

Doubles action set the tone early. Groton’s top two pairs held strong at the net, trading volleys and dictating play to claim decisive wins. At #3 doubles, the match was a back-and-forth battle, but Groton sealed the sweep with a clutch wide serve on match point, heading into singles with a 3–0 lead.

Singles play was all Groton. The home team displayed control, consistency, and confidence on every court. The only thing that could slow their momentum was the weather..and it did. With the match nearly in hand, a lightning delay forced play indoors. After a brief pause and now competing in front of an impromptu crowd of sheltering lacrosse, track, and baseball players, Groton stayed locked in. Steady play and punishing groundstrokes carried them to a commanding finish. The dazzle celebrated with custom cupcakes with their faces on them!

The Battle of the Zebras once again went Groton’s way.

Next up: a challenging matchup against a young, talented, and hungry BB&N squad.
