The Groton JV girls' lacrosse team faced a strong Brooks squad in today’s matchup, and while the final score wasn't in our favor, the game was full of personal victories, improved effort, and unwavering enthusiasm from our team.
Game Highlights:

Zoë Smith led the offense with 2 goals, showing excellent field vision by launching a pass upfield to open attackers after securing possession.

Kiely Murphy added a third goal for Groton, finishing a great play initiated by Ella Bannard, who made a sharp pass that set up the scoring opportunity.

Ella Bannard stood out on defense with key interceptions and helped fuel our attack with smart ball movement.

Maddie Cutie brought energy on both ends of the field—getting a shot on goal, making a heads-up play to free a ground ball, and playing strong defense. She was also a big cheerleader for goalie Srushti Mandera after each save.

Srushti Mandera showed grit in goal, making 21 total saves across four quarters and even coming out of the net to challenge plays in the corners.

Leia Motea and Cecily Green were vocal motivators, applying pressure on defense and keeping spirits high throughout the game.

Lily Shapiro demonstrated speed and hustle on both ends of the field, crashing the net and laying solid checks before exiting due to injury in the second half.

Dayana Genis, Nora Qiao, and Leia Motea all played aggressively on defense, marking up and creating disruptions in Brooks’ offense.

Sofia Hubball stepped up in a new role at midfield, pushing the ball forward and generating a shot on goal.

Apple Zhu kept working off the ball, vocalizing and getting open to support the attack.

Charlotte Jones, Teni Sobowale, and Leia Motea boosted morale from the sidelines—literally spelling out “GROTON” on the bench to cheer on their teammates.
