Good To Be Back in Action
After a refreshing spring long weekend, the Groton girls returned to campus and jumped right into action against a spirited Brooks squad. Under sunny skies and warm, if slightly breezy, conditions, the Zebras wasted no time getting back into rhythm.
Doubles play set the tone for the day. The #3 team cruised to a smooth win, with the #1 pair following soon after with a strong performance. At #2, after shaking off a slow start, Groton powered through to complete a convincing sweep of all the doubles points.
Singles action mirrored the dominance. Quick wins at #4 and #5 secured the overall team victory, but the match was far from over. Brooks’ #1 put up a great fight in a high-quality match, but Groton's top player ultimately prevailed. At #3, after a brief scoring hiccup, Groton refocused and finished strong.
All eyes turned to the final court, where #6 was locked in an epic battle. After fending off three match points in the second set, Groton forced a tiebreaker, and clinched the win in thrilling fashion: 6–7, 7–5, 1–0.
With momentum on their side, the Zebras now look ahead to a key matchup against Middlesex this weekend a showdown worthy of the name: The Battle of the Zebras.
