Shane Kim no-hits Nobles

5th former Shane Kim threw the first Groton no-hitter since Steve Brock against Milton in 1977 to lead Groton to a 2-0 victory at home over Nobles.  Kim dazzled the Nobles hitters all day long, striking out 9 and allowing only a single fly ball all game long.  Nobles had only four batters reach on the day, three on walks and one on a dropped third strike, and two of those were erased trying to steal by senior catcher Cam Schmitt.  Kim finished the game in dominant fashion, striking out the side in the 7th and 5 of the last 6 batters he faced.  Groton played flawless defense behind Kim, with senior Dan Herdiech making a particularly nice play on a ground ball smoked just to his right at third.

Offensively, Groton came up with just enough against a Nobles pitcher hitting his spots almost all game long.  In the second inning, Schmitt reached when a two strike pitch got away and glanced off his helmet.  Following a sacrifice bunt from Herdiech, 5th former Bennett Smith hit a booming double into the left-center field gap to score the first run.  Senior Nick David promptly followed with a sharp ground ball single up the middle to score Smith, and Kim had all the offense he would need on the day.
