Groton Football wins at home

The football team defeated St. George’s at their season opener home game last Saturday, with a final score of 34-0. Varsity quarterback and Co-Captain Greg Segal completed 4 of 5 passes for a total of 169 yards. Leading rushers were Co-Captain Noah Aaron, Caleb Coleman, Co-Captain Bennett Smith and Jay Montima. Touchdowns were scored by all these leading rushers, including two by Aaron. Defensively, great efforts were turned in by the entire squad, notably Bennett Smith with four unassisted tackles. Anthony Romano had three unassisted tackles.

The team scored the majority of their points early in the game and were able to give younger players some valuable varsity experience. Every member of the team, including some who were playing in their first football game, had an opportunity to play in this great season opener.
