On yet another scorching day (where is fall?), Groton managed to play with energy and skill to best St. George’s 2-0. Despite controlling much of the play in the first half, Groton struggled to finish in the final third until Steve “the Flash” Perchuk scored yet again (34th minute) off a corner kick with a thumping header. Co-captain Walker Davey delivered a fine cross on the paly to earn the assist. In the very start of the second half, Luke Beckstein came through once again like a force of nature: after receiving a wonderful diagonal ball from Perchuk, Luke found himself alone with the goalie. Finesse never seemed to cross his mind, and instead Luke blasted grass-burning rocket into the far corner of the net. St. George’s tried to get behind Groton’s defense, but Charlie Pearce and new addition Henry Hodde cleaned up one ball after another to preserve the shutout.
