Athlete Of the Week 1/26/17
Congratulations to Finn Lynch and Kaylie Keegan on being the Athletes Of the Week, and to Girls’ Varsity Hockey on being the Team Of the Week!
“Finn excelled in all respects in a tough 52-48 overtime loss this past Saturday to an undefeated Governors Academy team. He scored 18 points, made 7 of 10 free throws – including two clutch free throws to tie the game with 10 seconds left in regulation – grabbed 9 rebounds and played solid, pressure defense throughout the entire game. He rotated between three positions on offense throughout the game, playing the 3,4, and 5 position as needed. Most importantly, he kept his focus and head in the game throughout an intense, pressure-filled contest at home, listening carefully to his head coach during timeouts and modeling excellent on court leadership to his fellow players. Finn is an invaluable member of the team this year, one who is highly respected by his teammates and who contributes in ways both tangible and intangible to the team’s central motto – Firm, Fair and Fun!Congratulations Finn!” – Coaches Mazzaferro, Nelson, and Lamont.
“Kaylie was a major contributor to all of our wins over Dana Hall, LA, and BB+N in the past few weeks. When on the court, Kaylie leads both the offense and defense through constant communication and encouragement of her teammates. She always works hard, putting in 100% whenever she is on the court, and that hard work is paying off in big ways by her ability to handle the ball and read the defense to drive in towards the hoop. Her outstanding attitude and willingness to learn new skills make her an indispensable member of the JV squad.” – Coach Leroy, Martin- Nelson, and Giles.
“Low in numbers but high in energy, spirit, commitment, and camaraderie, Girls’ Varsity Hockey gives full effort each time it sets foot on the ice, invariably battling against teams with deeper benches and larger school enrollments. Whether in practices or in games, this team strives for excellence, representing all of us at Groton very admirably.” – Athletic Department
