Hard-fought loss indoors at BH

Sometimes in defeat one learns a great deal about a team. Groton lost a tough match against the top team in the ISL, Belmont Hill, who remains undefeated. Groton dropped every match in doubles, as Belmont HIll played smart angles and aggressively at the net. But then the comeback began.  After Groton lost the first set in singles, the boys chipped away at the lead.  Sam Girian won his first set and quickly the second. Aaron Jin won his second set. Captain Michael You dramatically won the first set in tie-breaker.  Maanwhile, MacGregor Beatty was neck and neck with one of the top players in the League.  Nico Davidoff dropped both sets, though played aggressive, smart tennis. When Gabe Scholl won both sets at number six, the score stood 7-6 for Belmont with two sets to play.  Beatty and You battled valiantly, but could not secure the victory.  Nonetheless, it was a very good match against a worthy opponent.

Groton received news shortly after the match that they were invited to the A Division of the New England Championships.  Opening round is at Groton on Saturday at 9:45 against Andover. Before that, there is a Friday contest against Rivers.  Lots of action on the tennis courts!
