Governor's 11, Groton 1

It's always a challenge opening the boys' JV season against the perennially strong and well-coached Governor's team, but our boys played hard today and showed moments of impressive, determined play.  Sky Colloredo-Mansfeld scored our team's first goal of the season in the opening quarter on a nice cut toward the crease and clever placement of the ball.  Yowana Wamala did an outstanding job devouring ground balls (scooping up nine!) and moving the ball effectively on offense.  Matt Pompa did some great face-off work throughout the game.  Both of our goalies, Frank Bruni and Ryan Voon, made some terrific saves against a relentless and deep Governor's offense.  It's nice to have this first game under our belt as we look forward to our game this Saturday at St. Sebastian's.
