Big Win for Girls Squash
After a devastating 3-4 loss to Noble and Greenough's squash team at the High School Nationals earlier this month, Groton girls avenged that loss and beat Nobles in a reversed 4-3 win on Wednesday.
At Nationals, Groton’s girls squash team placed 11th out of 62 teams. Nobles finished ninth. Groton was eager for the rematch.
Numbers 1 (CC Ho '13), 2 (Lizzy Ross '12), and 7 (Molly Prockop '15) had won their matches at Nationals, but others joined the win column when facing their rivals in the recent ISL match: numbers 5 (Chloe Fross ’12) and 6 (Mary Burns ’14) edged out wins in matches that both went to five games.
During the first round at Nationals, the team faced the William Penn Charter School, but Groton’s top four were unable to break through, and the team lost 3-4. Nevertheless, the girls were proud of the fight they waged against Penn Charter, which ultimately finished seventh. Groton received a bye in the quarter-finals of the consolation round, then lost to Nobles later in the day. The following day brought an exciting 5-2 win over Taft, a school Groton rarely confronts in squash.
