Epiphany of Lights
Upholding a tradition that dates to 1920, Groton's Chapel became a sea of candles on Sunday evening, January 8, as the School held its Epiphany Service of Lights.
The service celebrates the Feast of the Epiphany, commemorating the coming of the magi to worship the Christ child, says Groton Chaplain Beth Humphrey.
Per Groton tradition, the four senior prefects took the roles of the three wise men and a star. After the third hymn, the Chapel was darkened, with only one candle burning. Then, from that one flame, the light spread as students lit one another's candles until the Chapel once again was aglow. The space, always mystical and magical, became even more so.
