TV Series Features Groton Alumnus and Mentor
A new Discovery Channel series called "Game Changers" visited Groton School Monday to interview the faculty mentor who inspired one of its featured subjects, a Groton game changer from the Class of 1991.
John "Jay" Rogers '91 created an innovative company, Local Motors, which lets customers super-customize a car and help build it with their own two hands. Mr. Rogers credits woodworking teacher Douglas Brown as a primary mentor, and a crew from the "Game Changers" series wanted to meet the teacher who wielded such influence.
Mr. Brown remembers his young student vividly, and reminisced about the talent and precision he showed even in high school, from the rare 100 percent grade he earned to the way he customized a project, making it more challenging and original. The "Game Changers" episode is expected to air in mid-October, featuring Rogers, his company, and Mr. Brown, the Groton teacher who inspired him.
