Wins over St. Mark's and Tabor

The girls' varsity cross country team beat a tough St. Mark's squad on Saturday, and it took a full team effort to do so. Amy Sharma ran the 5K in a blistering 19:29, the fastest time for a Groton girl since at least 2010 and plenty fast enough to earn her fourth individual win in six chances this season. Wren Fortunoff fought off an early challenge from St. Mark's top runners, then ran away from them in the 2nd mile to lock down 2nd overall. But the race remained very much in question until Katie Reveno and Aisling O'Connell surged ahead of St. Mark's third and fourth runners in the 3rd mile to nail down the win. Brianna Zhang and Cara Chang left nothing to chance, beating St. Mark's 5th runner, and Sophia Wu rounded out the varsity finishers with a strong race. Against host Tabor, Groton took the first six places en route to a decisive win. We look forward to seeing what the girls can do in their last home meet next Saturday.
