Back to Back to Back ISL Champs!

The team has done it again! Groton Girls Varsity Tennis has won its third consecutive ISL title!

The team took on a very strong St. Marks squad over the weekend and came away with a convincing 9-0 win over their rivals. The win caps off a perfect 16-0 record in dual matches, 12-0 in the league, and a year that the players will cherish for a long time.

Doubles was highlighted by the passing of the torch. Sixth formers are playing alongside fifth formers in some exciting and successful pairings. Alicia Guo and Ella Farahnakian started the team off with a win at breakneck speed. Next on the score sheet were Amelia Barnum and Lindy Zhang, who used precise volleying and stellar camaraderie to secure a win. The final pairing of April Li and Caiyu Yang fought off blistering groundstrokes from their opponents en route to a clutch win and a tear-filled embrace.

Singles went as it had all year; Groton raced out to comfortable leads and fended off their strong-willed challengers. Olivia Herr picked the first point, finishing the year with a perfect 17-0 record in singles. Alicia Guo would finish next, securing the win for the team. Alicia ends the year 13-0 in singles matches and 30-2 for her career.

The rest of the matches would fall Groton's way as well. Leah Bay, Lindy Zhang, Caiyu Yang, and Ella Farahnakian all stayed cool on a hot day to complete the sweep. Groton 9, St. Mark's 0.

While wins are always a welcomed sight, the real joy came in the journey. The class of 2024 will graduate having never lost the ISL. They leave behind a team that is poised to return next season and continue to build on what will go down as one of the most dominant athletic runs in school history. Thank you to Amelia, April, and Alicia. Your leadership and court skills will be hard to replicate, and we wish you all the best in Cambridge and beyond.

Next Match: 4/8/25 at Andover 👀
