2nd Place At ISLs!

Sunshine, blue skies, temperatures in the 60’s, and a roaring crowd combined to create a picture perfect atmosphere for the 2022 ISL Championship Race— one of two capstones for our season. The course itself was held on the fields at Wrentham Developmental Center in Wrentham, MA. Not unlike a golf course, the course was a large open green field with minimal elevation.

The Boys’ Varsity Race saw strong performances across the board. Fourth Former Christopher Hovet took home 4th place with a PR of 16:36, while Sixth Former Jack Lionette brought home 7th place at 16:47. Not too far behind came Ayur Vallecha (`25) at 17:17, Captain Vivan Das (`23) at 17:48, Ryder Cavanaugh (`24) at 17:53, Jeremy Gall (`24) at 18:13), and Eric Ge (`24) at 19:49.

The JV race was no less spectacular, with PRs nearly all-across the board. Chase Bellamy (`26), Kogo Bennison (`24), Owen Cronan (`26), Robert Hong (`23), Husayn Ladha (`24), Eric Liang (`26), Carter Lightburn (`25), Aryan Ago (`24), Paul McLaughlin (`25), Maxwell Rothman (`27), Matter Sennelius, Liam Warren (`25), and Damien West (`26) each boasted personal bests.

Throughout the season, the boys faced tough losses to powerhouses like Belmont Hill, Roxbury Latin, and Middlesex. Through a mix of grit, patience, and above all else, a commitment to teamwork, Groton Boys’ Cross Country rose above the competition to walk away with a second place finish and some hardware for the Groton Athletics trophy case.

While the boys are quite pleased with their results, they will not rest in their laurels too much this week. There’s still quite a bit of work to do for New Englands this Saturday!
