Groton Tallies Second ISL Victory

Groton scored two goals at the end of the first half to take the lead and held on for a 5-2 victory over Brooks on Saturday afternoon.

The Zebras scored their first goal when Allie Kandel hit a beautiful corner kick that Karenna Beckstein hammered home with her head.  Only minutes later, Frances Waltz caught the Brooks goalkeeper off her line and scored from outside the eighteen.

Groton extended its lead in the second half when Waltz played Calie Messina in for a breakaway goal.   Waltz added two more herself, both assisted by Beckstein, to complete the scoring for the Zebras.

Nina Rutledge, Genevieve Nelson, and Julia Spada did some excellent work to help control the midfield, while defenders Aimee Zheng, Lindsey Manugian, and Grace Crowley played very well in the back.  Alesandra Powell, Luisa Garciarramos Petricioli, Ashley Rosenbloom, and Calen Cagney also contributed valuable minutes in the victory.

Goalkeeper Rose Shingles made some key saves in the net.

Groton (3-2-1) travels to Milton on Wednesday.
