A Beautiful Day, A Beautiful Display
On a picture perfect Friday evening, the Groton girls varsity tennis team welcomed Rivers for a much-anticipated showdown under the setting sun.
From the very first serve, the Lady Zeebs came out firing, showing poise, power, and precision in doubles play.
At the top two spots, Groton jumped out to early leads, controlling the pace and dictating points with confidence. The #3 doubles match proved to be a tighter contest, but Groton maintained their edge with steady, smart play. When the last doubles point was tallied, Groton held a commanding 3-0 lead.
Singles action brought more of the same. Though matches began at staggered times, the results all leaned decisively in Groton's favor. Sofia was last to take the court but wasted no time, putting on a clinical performance to be the first off with a win. Caiyu followed with a composed and gritty effort, fending off a feisty opponent who brought some serious heat. The victory was sealed.
Ella, Leah, and Liv each turned in dominant showings of their own, handling tough competition with maturity and firepower. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the crowd turned their attention to the final match of the day, Captain Lindy versus one of the ISL’s finest. Unfazed by the spotlight, Lindy took control early with her signature mix of pace and finesse, closing out the match in style.
Final score: Groton 9, Rivers 0. A clean sweep.
Next Up: NEPSACs at Andover. Let’s see what this team can do.
