Stunning Weather, Great Tennis, More History!
It was a perfect day for tennis as Groton traveled to Exeter for what turned into an epic battle between two talented squads.
Doubles action kicked off with back and forth play across all courts. Exeter surged ahead at #1 and #3, while Groton found its rhythm at #2 to grab an early lead. The #1 spot came down to a tense tie-break, with Groton holding firm to claim the win and a 2–0 edge. All eyes then turned to the #3 court, where Groton staged a thrilling comeback to steal the match and complete the doubles sweep. The Zebras raced ahead, 3–0.
Singles play saw Groton come out strong, with convincing first-set wins at #2 and #3 putting the team on the brink of victory. But Exeter was far from finished, #1 and #4 featured tight, gritty battles that kept the tension high. In the end, Groton took five of six singles matches, earning a dominant 8–1 victory. Don’t let the score fool you, this one was a slugfest from start to finish.
The match was also historic: just one week after Ella's 100th win, co-captain Caiyu Yang ’25 joined the exclusive club. She secured her 99th and 100th career wins in Groton colors, becoming just the third player in program history to reach the milestone.
Up next: A Friday showdown against a strong Rivers squad. The Lady Zebras are rolling, and ready.
