  • Physics Teacher

    Groton School is seeking a full-time physics teacher, a faculty position, as a one-year sabbatical replacement beginning in September 2023. Responsibilities will include teaching four courses in physics in collaboration with other experienced members of the department. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching physics at the high school level. Experience teaching in a fabrication lab or maker space is also desirable.

  • Communications Fellow

    Groton School is seeking a communications fellow to support the work of the Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM), which oversees all internal and external school communications. Partnering with stakeholders across campus, the OCM develops and implements strategies that effectively engage and inform constituents, elevating the reputation and visibility of the school while ensuring brand identity, messaging coherence, and consistency across all channels.
     
    Reporting to the director of digital communications, the communications fellow’s duties will include:
    • Contributing to the implementation of social media strategy by producing photo, video, and written content for the school's various channels
    • Attending school events and writing news stories for the website
    • Working with students to generate content for the website and social media
    • Managing the production of the yearbook
    • Additional duties as assigned
    The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
    • Bachelor's degree in communications, photography, journalism, or a related field
    • Experience managing a website and/or social media channels for a student organization, business, or other institution
    • A demonstrated interest in photography and videography
    • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills
    • Experience in producing publications
    • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and inDesign, is preferred

  • Spanish Teaching Fellow 

    Groton School is seeking a Spanish teaching fellow who will teach two courses, from second to fourth year, with the guidance of experienced members of the department. The Spanish curriculum balances the study of grammar and vocabulary with spoken Spanish, an introduction to different cultures in the Spanish-speaking world, and readings in Spanish. Interested candidates should have a bachelor's degree.

  • Photography Teacher (Part-Time)

    Groton School is seeking a photography teacher to replace a teacher on sabbatical during the 2023–24 school year (September–June). The part-time position (8–10 hours per week) involves teaching analog and digital photography and collaborating with members of the Visual Arts Department.

    Courses are offered to tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students and include an introductory course (analog photo), using black-and-white film and teaching the skills of shooting, developing, and printing photos; a digital photography course that teaches the tools of Adobe Photoshop and digital printing; and an advanced photography workshop.

  • Mathematics Teacher

    Groton School seeks a full-time faculty member with a strong background in calculus to teach mathematics and collaborate with other members of the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. The position will begin in September 2023, and responsibilities will include teaching four courses of math (including at least two sections of AP Calculus BC).

    Qualified candidates will have prior teaching experience and be able to teach various levels in a program that begins at Algebra 1 and continues through Multivariable Calculus and specialized tutorials. Experience with programming and computer science is a plus, but not required.

Teaching Fellow Program

  • Charles C. Alexander Teaching Fellow Program

    Groton School, a coeducational boarding school in Groton, Massachusetts, welcomes applicants to the Charles C. Alexander Teaching Fellow Program. This program serves recent college graduates interested in working under supervision to develop the varied skills required of secondary boarding school teachers. The program offers as wide an exposure as possible to all aspects of boarding school life.

    The teaching fellow's responsibilities will include teaching two classes under the supervision of an experienced member of the department as well as observation of other classes. The fields open to fellows are English, History, Mathematics, Classics, French, Spanish, Chinese, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Religion, and the Arts (not Art History), but the departments with openings vary from year to year. Openings will be listed on this page. Fellows also help coach athletics during at least two but preferably three seasons, assist in dormitory supervision one or two evenings per week and every fourth Saturday evening (or as needed), and participate in other areas of school life commensurate with their interests and talents.

    Teaching fellow appointments are one-year, salaried positions. Also provided are living quarters, meals in the school's Dining Hall, and full utilities, except for telephone. Medical insurance is offered, with recipients paying a small percentage of the premium for the plan chosen.

  • Head Girls Varsity Lacrosse Coach

    Groton School is seeking a head coach for its girls varsity lacrosse program beginning with the 2023 spring term (late March through early June). 

    The head girls varsity lacrosse coach is responsible for the operation of the girls lacrosse program, including organizing, completing the assigned tasks, communicating regularly with the Athletics Department, and working with students. The head coach conducts practices, motivates students, instructs athletes in game strategies and techniques, and helps with day-to-day logistics, game statistical support, and guiding assistant coaches.

    The head coach will work up to 20 hours per week, Monday through Saturday, and will report to the athletic director. Compensation will be based on experience and does not include benefits.

    Responsibilities and Duties
    • Instructs players in the techniques of the game
    • Organizes and directs individual and small group practice activities/exercises
    • Assesses player skills and monitors players during competition and practice
    • Models sportsmanship and nondiscriminatory practices in all activities and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, opponents, officials, and spectators
    • May need to perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors 
    • Collaborates with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments
    • Travels with team to away games
    The ideal candidate will have:
    • Up-to-date CPR certification
    • Three or more years of coaching experience at the high school level or above
    • Excellent knowledge and teaching skills in analysis and techniques of lacrosse
    • Strong motivational and communication skills
    • Inclusive approach to teaching and educating
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide array of constituents (students, coaches, staff, faculty, health care providers).

  • Wellness Program Manager

    Groton School is seeking a wellness program manager to support the work of the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services, which provides mental health support and education to students. Reporting to the director of wellness programming and training, this is a 10-month per year (mid-August to mid-June, excluding student breaks) exempt, salaried, staff position with benefits.

    Responsibilities and Duties
    The Wellness Program Manager will be expected to: 
    • Develop and implement a developmentally appropriate, and prevention-oriented social-emotional curriculum
    • Deliver high-quality and engaging content to students on topics such as mental health, sexual health, healthy relationships, and other areas of social-emotional learning
    • Focus on topics prioritized by Groton School including sleep, body image, belonging, connection, and coping mechanisms
    • Create student wellness initiatives focusing on stress reduction and community building
    • Conduct needs assessments on health promotion topics
    • Analyze data to help determine priorities
    • Develop and implement trainings and outreach efforts around topics of community relevance
    • Train and supervise student Peer counselors
    • Advise student affinity groups
    • Develop and run social/emotional support groups and psychoeducational groups for students
    • Act as a visible member of the school community, attending student games/performances and other events as they arise

    Qualifications
    The ideal candidate will have:
    • A Bachelor’s degree (required)
    • A Master’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Social Work, or a related field (preferred)
    • Previous experience teaching health and social emotional learning, ideally to adolescents
    • Demonstrated experience with implementation and evaluation of Health curriculum, including sexual health, substance abuse, and other mental health/wellness related issues
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work within teams across departments
    • Experience working with and creating content that will engage a diverse community
    • A desire to be an active member of the school community

  • Groundskeeper

    Groton School's Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking an energetic, team player to be a full-time groundskeeper. This is an entry-level, full-time position with benefits. The position requires an individual who can work a flexible forty-hour week (7:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.): Spring and Fall, Tuesday to Saturday; Winter and Summer, Monday to Friday.

    Applicants should possess good mechanical skills and be able to operate a variety of grounds care equipment, including tractors, mowers, grass trimmers, and hand tools. The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and very good interpersonal skills since they will be performing work among students, faculty, and peers on campus grounds and among faculty housing landscapes. Snow removal and heavy lifting are required. A minimum of a high school or trade school diploma and a current driver’s license are required.  A hoisting license is a plus.

  • HVAC Mechanic (Full-Time)

    Groton School is seeking a team player to join our Building & Grounds Department as the school’s HVAC mechanic.  This is a year-round, full-time position with benefits, reporting to the manager of plant & utilities. The position requires an individual who can work a 40-hour week, with occasional overtime, and who can commit to being part of a rotating on-call schedule and a rotating Saturday schedule.

    Responsibilities and Duties
    • Performs maintenance on heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, as well as central steam and water treatment plants
    • Works individually and with service contractors to perform preventive maintenance
    • Keeps accurate records of preventive maintenance performed on equipment
    • Interfaces directly with Faculty and Staff to coordinate work
    • Participates in maintenance of the fire alarm and sprinkler system
    • Assures proper operation of ice rink compressors
    • Assists with occasional ice and snow removal, shoveling/sanding, etc.
    Qualifications
    • High School or Trade School diploma
    • 3 to 5 years of experience in a mechanical maintenance position
    • Universal EPA 608 Certification
    • Familiar with maintenance procedures in a central steam plant environment
    • Experience with ground source heat pump / geothermal operations
    • Oil burner license a plus

  • Part-Time Archivist

    Groton School seeks a part-time archivist to manage the school archives, assembling, preserving, and cataloguing a rich and treasured collection; maintaining an archival database; and devising and implementing policies for departments’ archive-worthy record-keeping. 
     
    The archivist will maintain the orderly storage of the school’s archival collection to allow for expedient retrieval, using accepted best practices, always mindful of legal guidelines and privacy concerns. 
     
    Groton School's archives, now stored in a water- and fireproof, climate-controlled space, includes boxes of manuscripts and correspondence of past headmasters, 100,000-plus photographs, reels of recently digitized film, items of historic significance, and cabinet drawers of ephemera. A 2020 consultant’s report, including a thorough inventory, will provide an overview and substantial information.
     
    Long-term goals will include managing digitization for historical materials of greatest interest to the general public, historians, and student researchers; helping create an accessible online repository for selected items; determining best uses for an extensive collection of already digitized audio-visual materials; and working with the communications and alumni offices on engagement efforts involving the archives. 
     
    Requirements for the job include:
     
    • A master’s degree in archival studies, library sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience
    • Experience in records and archives management
    • Ability to interact collegially with members of various departments 
    • Integrity and tact
    • Attention to detail
    • Ability to work independently
    • Experience with electronic records and archives management software or willingness to learn
    • Genuine enthusiasm to work at a school with a rich history 
    • Lifting heavy material may be necessary.
     
    Compensation will be commensurate with experience and hours per week negotiable. However, the archivist will be expected to work in person for a significant portion of the job. The position includes meals in the school's Dining Hall during the academic year as well as access to Athletic Center facilities.

  • Full-Time Maintenance Painter 

    Groton School’s Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking an experienced painter with light carpentry skills to join the carpentry/paint team.

    Work on campus buildings, including dorms and other housing, will result in close interaction with students, faculty, and peers, requiring very good interpersonal skills. The ability to work as part of a team is a must. Snow shoveling and occasional heavy lifting are required. Occasional weekend work is required for special events on campus.

    Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be willing to use their own vehicle on the job.

    This position requires a minimum of three (3) years’ experience with interior and exterior paint preparation/application and light carpentry. Wallpapering and plastering experience is a plus.

    The Buildings and Grounds Department is seeking a campus safety officer.

    Applicants must possess a valid and clean Massachusetts driver’s license and First Responder/CPR training. Applicants will be required to successfully complete a physical ability test and will undergo a full background check.

    The successful candidate will have a positive attitude and very good interpersonal skills, for performing work duties among students, faculty, staff, and guests on campus. Snow shoveling and occasional heavy lifting are required.

    One to three years of experience in school or campus safety, law enforcement, military police training, or correctional officer training are required.

    Groton School is seeking part-time medical chaperones to transport students to off-campus appointments.
     
    These are on-call positions during the Groton School academic year (early September through June).  
     
    Responsibilities include:
    • Driving students to and from off-campus medical and behavioral health visits (in areas including, but not limited to, Boston and Manchester, NH).
    Requirements:
    • A valid driver’s license and a good driving record
    • A clean and reliable passenger vehicle
