BEFORE CALLING THE ADMISSION OFFICE TO SCHEDULE A VISIT, PLEASE COMPLETE OUR INQUIRY FORM ONLINE.
Admission Process
1. Complete the Inquiry Form
If you would like to set up an interview or simply receive information about Groton, go to our online Inquiry Form and complete Part One - Contact Information and Part Two - Special Interests. The information you provide in Part Two will help us connect you with people at Groton who share your interests.

2. Schedule an Interview
Come and see us! Groton School invites families to visit at any time. Visiting while school is in session makes it much easier to envision yourself as a Groton student. To arrange a visit, complete the Inquiry Form or the Candidate Profile and then call the Admission Office at (978) 448-7510. You might find it helpful to consult our tour and interview schedule. Visits typically include a student-led tour and an interview with an admissions counselor. Students and their families should interview in the fall or early winter of the school year preceding their anticipated entry to Groton School. We interview throughout the year, including the summer, with the exception of school holidays and the period of February 1 - April 30.

Off Campus Interview
Groton School considers an interview on campus to be an important step in the admission process.  However, in recognition of the difficulty some families may have with travelling to campus, an on-campus interview is not strictly required.  After completing the Candidate Profile portion of the application, paying the application fee, and sending the required standardized test results to the admission office, you may submit a request for an off-campus interview to admission_office@groton.org.  Interviews may be conducted in your region or via a Skype video call.  Due to high volume, the admission office may not be able to fulfill every request for an off-campus interview.  In lieu of an interview, two additional letters of recommendation may be submitted with your application. Interview requests must be made by January 15.

3. Complete the Candidate Profile
The Candidate Profile offers admission candidates a convenient way to provide biographical data to numerous schools with one form. You may access the Candidate Profile online through our website or by visiting the Gateway to Prep Schools www.gatewaytoprepschools.com, an online application system created by Groton School, Deerfield Academy, The Hotchkiss School, Phillips Academy and St. Paul's School.

At Groton, we would prefer that you submit the Candidate Profile online.

4. Register for a Standardized Test
The SSAT exam is preferred, though you may take the ISEE in place of the SSAT. For more information on testing dates and sites, visit www.ssat.org and www.erbtest.org. Be sure to list Groton's code 3598 when you register for the SSAT . We can only accept scores directly from the testing services. The November or December test dates are preferable; the January date is acceptable. If you have not been studying in an English speaking school for the last two years, you should also take the TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) during the same time period. Groton's TOEFL code is 8224.

5. Recommendations
To access the Gateway recommendation system you must submit the Candidate Profile.  Completing recommendations online through the Gateway system is a simple and secure process for you and your teachers.  Your first step is to ask people if they will recommend you.  If they agree, ask them for their email addresses.  You will then enter those addresses in the recommendation section of the Gateway application so your recommenders will receive the forms via email.  We advise recommenders to print copies of their recommendations before submission.  These copies may be accepted by schools outside the Gateway consortium because the Gateway recommnedation forms ask the same questions as recommendation forms used by boarding schools across the country.

6. Complete the Application
To complete an application, you must submit all forms to the admission office by January 15th. A complete application includes the following online forms:
