Hockey Heads to Playoffs!

Proving itself with a 7-2-1 record over the last 10 games of the season, Groton's boys hockey team has qualified for a spot in the Piatelli/Simmons Tournament, a competition among the top eight Division I small schools in the New England Prep School Ice Hockey Association.

The tournament begins this Wednesday, when Groton (5th seed) plays Westminster School (4th seed) at 3:30 p.m at Westminster School in Simsbury, CT.  The winner will play again on Saturday at a school to be determined, and the finals will be at Yale University.
Led by goalie Matt Pompa '14 and forwards Ace Cowans '15 and Michael Brown '16, Groton's team closed the season with a 15-7-3 record. Ace finished third in scoring in all of New England with 24 goals and 31 assists. Matt finished the season among the top five goalies in the league by making 573 saves and posting a .932 percent save percentage.  And Mike was one of the top scoring sophomores in all of New England with 21 goals and 26 assists.

Besides Groton and Westminster, the other schools competing in the tournament are Dexter (#1), Kimball Union (#2), Rivers (#3), Brooks (#6), Millbrook (#7), and Canterbury (#8). Join us at Westminster School this Wednesday to cheer on Groton!
