Volunteer Opportunities

Please consider volunteering for Groton—it is a wonderful way to get to know the School and other families. Volunteers are critical to the success of parent programsplease see the detailed descriptions of our volunteer opportunities below.

  • Admission Office Volunteers

    The Admission Office has volunteer opportunities both for parents who live nearby and for those who live far away. Current parents play an important role in helping to identify qualified candidates, encouraging them to apply, and providing support and information.

    Parents from any part of the world, near or far, may represent their respective regions and help attract the best possible candidates to Groton from across the U.S. and around the globe. An information resource for prospective parents, members of this group may be asked to take on various roles, depending on their time and interests, including helpful advisor, representative at a school fair, talent scout, Revisit Day panelist, and reception host. For more information, please contact Senior Associate Director of Admission Cort Pomeroy.

    Parents who live in the area may help on campus, talking with prospective parents in the Admission Office's reception area while their children are interviewing with admission officers. Best suited to parents who have been associated with Groton for at least one year and who enjoy talking about their child's Groton experience, this opportunity typically involves two Saturdays of work between mid-September and late January.   • Host Families

    Parents who live nearby also may volunteer as host families, offering international students a supportive off-campus contact, ready with advice, friendship, an occasional refuge, or a home-cooked meal. For more information, please contact Senior Associate Director of Admission Cort Pomeroy.
  • Parent Fund Volunteers

    Parent Fund volunteers are assigned a group of parents (often in their child’s form) to encourage generous participation in the Annual Fund, a critical component of the School’s operating budget making up over 10%. You do not need to live nearby to participate—parents around the country, and the globe, have been very effective Parent Fund volunteers. Currently there are 45 volunteers from coast to coast and globally.
  • Host a Gathering in your Area

    Parents are welcome to host a reception for local families.
  • New Parent Liaison

    Current parents have insight and wisdom of offer new parents. Liaisons contact new families to offer guidance about the transition to boarding school life and Groton’s unique culture.
  • Parents Weekend Welcome Tables

    Returning parents greet, direct, and assist parents as they arrive during Parents Weekend.
  • Parent's Independent School Network (PIN) Liaison

    PIN is an organization of independent school parents created to foster cooperation and interaction among private schools in the Boston area. The organization holds a series of workshops and meetings throughout the year, and a small number of Groton parents attend and share the information to keep us all informed.
  • Groton Women’s Network Liaison

    Groton Women’s Network is a committee whose mission is to connect the women of the Groton School community, strengthen their ties to the School, and to stimulate communication and interaction among them. Parents can serve as a liaison to the committee.
