Congratulations to Shane Kim, Max Klein, Edward Cho, Alexandra Conner and Phoebe Fry on being this week’s Athletes Of the Week!!!

Shane Kim, Varsity Baseball-- “IIIrd Former Shane Kim led the baseball team to an upset win over cross-town rival Lawrence Academy.  Kim got his third win of the season as he threw a complete game 3 hitter against the top team in the ISL.  Mixing his pitches well and very rarely getting into trouble, he continually kept the LA hitters off balance all day. His pitching line for the day was; 7 innings pitched, 3 hits, 1 run, 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. With Monday's performance, he moves to 3-2 on the season with a team leading 1.96 ERA.”—Coach DiSarcina

Max Klein, JV Tennis-- “I would like to nominate Max Klein from my JV tennis team.  His play has been rock solid at number 3 singles throughout the season.  In fact, he hasn’t dropped a set yet.  His record is a perfect 9-0.  Most recently he helped us to secure victories in two closely contested matches against Nobles (7-5) and Middlesex (5-3).”—Coach Pomeroy

Edward Cho, JV Lacrosse-- “In a season that has featured too few victories and some lopsided losses, it’s easy for players to get disheartened and for their effort level to tail off.  While many have worked hard, Edward Cho has particularly impressed his coaches with non-stop hustle in all facets of the game.  He has been one of the team’s more effective midfield defenders and has been a consistent goal scorer, as well.  Edward has played man up, man down, taken face-offs, and has been a team leader in ground balls.  Varsity coaches were impressed by his pre-season work in Arizona and he was the only JV-rostered player to score in a combined varsity-JV game against Cardigan Mountain School.  In short, Edward has a bright future in Groton lacrosse and has been one of the most effective and dependable players on the JV squad this year.”—Coach Funnell and Coach Fry

Alexandra Conner, Track and Field--“I’d like to nominate Alexandra Conner. At a meet at St. Paul’s vs. St. P, Milton, LA, and Landmark last week, she was 1st in the 300 M hurdles with a personal best of 52.19 beating out her closest competitor with a hard sprint over the final 80 meters. She was 3rd in the 100 meter hurdles, 4th in the high jump, and ran one leg of the 4 x 100 meter in which the girls placed 2nd. She was personally involved in scoring 20 points for the girls’ team. Moreover, Alexandra is a fantastic leader and captain”—Coach Maguire

Phoebe Fry, Varsity Lacrosse—“Phoebe has adapted to every adjustment, change, and problem that has come her way this season. She has been involved in critical plays throughout the season, such as St. Paul’s where she caused a turnover by herself, got the ground ball and got the ball into the attack after almost 3 minutes in a stall defense, or in Brooks where she drew a dangerous shot, got possession of the ball and carried it to the attack before getting fouled again, all while keeping her cool and composure. She plays a crucial role on a very strong defensive unit, but more importantly, Phoebe’s toughness, communication, enthusiasm and focus make her a true asset to the team’s success and morale.”—Coach Giles and Coach Dumont
