Three Groton Grads Advance in NCAA Soccer Tourneys

Three recent Groton graduates are playing soccer for colleges that have advanced in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) women’s soccer tournaments.
In Division 1, the Boston University Terriers, and Groton alumna Dorrie Varley-Barrett '15, advanced to the second round of the tournament after upsetting St. John's 2–1 in overtime Saturday night.

In Division 3, Brandeis University, and team member Sam Volpe '15, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen—the last sixteen remaining teams in the tournament—after  Brandeis outperformed Amherst College in penalty kicks and clinched the game.

Dorrie and Sam both helped propel Groton School to its championship win in last year's Class B NEPSAC competition.

Also in Division 3, Williams College and its team member, Groton alumna Abby Morss '11, advanced to the Sweet Sixteen after a 3–0 win over the College of New Jersey. Abby earned an assist that was described on the Williams College website as unselfish because Abby could have taken a shot but placed the ball perfectly for a teammate instead.

Congratulations to Dorrie, Sam, and Abby—and to Williams, BU, and Brandeis as they continue to compete.
