The Best Senior Districts Yet
Every year, a group of Groton musicians participates in the CDMMEA Senior District Music Festival audition process, rehearsals, and performances. Recently, the number of musicians attending has been expanding, and it grew to a whopping seventeen members who were accepted this year into orchestra, band, and choir. With thirteen of us receiving All-State Recommendations as well, our Senior District results were the best they had ever been.
On Wednesday and Friday, we drove over to the North Middlesex Regional High School, where we participated in the rehearsals for our corresponding music groups. As a violinist, I rehearsed with the orchestra on pieces titled "Mardi Gras" and "Orpheus in the Underworld (Overture)," conducted by the amazing Nadya Potemkina. I ended up becoming super close to my stand partner and her friends, who were all from the same school and thoroughly educated me on the vast repertoires and operas of classical music. Although the rehearsals totaled up to around four hours in length, we were able to take a trip out to McDonald’s with our music teacher, Dr. Lanier, for dinner each rehearsal. There, amidst the chatter and food, we witnessed Nick '28 performing an interpretative dance to Shakira’s "Hips Don’t Lie," a memory I certainly will not be forgetting anytime soon.
Just this Saturday, our concert took place in Mechanics Hall. Outside of rehearsals, we had around three hours of break time, which we spent singing really bad karaoke, goofing around, and playing card games. Senior Districts this year was so fun, and I can’t wait to come back next year!
