Female Composers Concert
On November 10, 2025, I gathered with 22 other members of Groton’s Select Chamber program in the Gammons Concert Hall to perform a program consisting of all-female composer pieces.
The groups played pieces from Amy Beach, Lourdes Montgomery, Clara Schumann, Shirley Ly, Grażyna Bacewicz, Lili Boulanger, Jessie Montgomery, and Florence Price. Some of the groups consisted of string quartets, wind trios, and even a bass-piano duet. In my string quartet, we played the third movement of Florence Price’s String Quartet No. 2 in A Minor, titled Juba Dance. Price was inspired by the musical technique, called “patting Juba,” of patting various parts of the body to create a drum-like rhythmic accompaniment for American folk dance. After the concert, we gathered outside for some boba and snacks to celebrate the first Select Chamber concert of the year!
