• Squash - Varsity Girls

    2023 - 2024
    Head Coach: Nishad Das

Captains for 2023–24: Ava Bridges, Eleanor Taggart

Squash is one of the most popular winter sports at Groton School, and the program caters to both keenly competitive and casual recreational squash players. Groton's girls squash program is one of the stronger programs in New England, with the team constantly finishing in the top ten positions, and finishing as high as second at the end-of-season Division A Interscholastic tournament. Nationally, too, we have made our mark by participating among the Division 1 teams in the National High School Championships and finishing as high as fourth. We are one of the most dominant teams in the ISL, having won the league a number of times in the last decade. In five of the last ten years, the top ISL player has come from Groton, and every year our team has placed players on the ISL All-League team, with numerous others receiving honorable mentions.

The program subdivides forty students into varsity, junior varsity, and thirds teams. Our twelve glass-backed courts, designed for optimal match viewing, allow us to maximize the number of students who can participate.

The varsity team typically has eight to ten players practicing every non-match day for ninety minutes on four or five courts. The JV team typically has about ten players on four courts. Our thirds team is given special instruction in larger groups, allowing the program to absorb a high volume of participants. All of our teams play interscholastic matches weekly. Besides having a lot of daily court time, the program also emphasizes fitness and sportsmanship, evident from the number of times the team has won the sportsmanship trophy.

We are one of the few programs in New England that has taken players who started in our thirds program, without any previous squash experience, to college-level squash. Players from our program have played squash at Harvard, Trinity, Yale, Stanford, UVA, Franklin and Marshall, Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Williams, Tufts, and other top college programs around the country.
