    2018 - 2019
    Head Coach: Randi Dumont

2018-19 Captains: Bridget Cornell '19 and Lily Delaney '19

The Girls’ Varsity Ice Hockey program is one that takes great pride in its student-athletes, and in representing the school each winter with “Groton” emblazoned across our chests. The program accommodates a relatively wide spectrum of skill sets, yet stays competitive in one of the most challenging leagues in prep school, otherwise known as the Independent School League (ISL). Embracing our varied levels of expertise, we have found ways to maximize the role of each player both in practice and in games; the greater notion that everyone matters at Groton, is strongly reflected in the girls’ hockey program. Everybody has a role, and each role is instrumental in the success of the team.

This is a program founded upon respect, integrity, trust and accountability. Whether a student-athlete is collegiate bound or never going to put her skates on again after high school, it is the foundation of work ethic, love for the sport and a team-oriented mindset that must characterize those who don the Groton jersey. There is an expectation that each player will approach the hockey season with the same level of commitment and intensity as applied in the classroom. At Groton we focus on the development of the whole person, and the lessons you learn in the context of athletics are as equally enriching as those learned in the schoolhouse.

The hockey programs at Groton are fortunate to have access to two ice rinks – the Pratt and the O’Brien. These facilities allow us first priority practice and game scheduling, and no team (varsity or jv) ever has to practice after dinner time or into study hall hours. Varsity and JV teams practice four days a week, with game days falling every Wednesday and Saturday. A 20+ game schedule with one holiday tournament provides for a busy winter season and ample ice time for players in the varsity program.

The coaching staff welcomes any prospective student to visit campus for a tour and interview, to meet some players, to catch a game or even to sit with one of the coaches for a chat. Please do not hesitate to contact the head coach, Randi Dumont, at rdumont@groton.org for more information on the girls’ varsity ice hockey program at Groton.
