A tough ending to a good game

On a day when we were ready to step on the ice before our opponent made it through traffic to get to the rink, the visitors won the third period 4-0 to break the game open. Dana Hall scored 2 quick goals to let us know they were off the bus and ready to play, and then there were good opportunities either way, with big saves and near misses at both ends. Groton battled back and, having been down 5-1 after the first, got back to 5-3 for a good chunk of the second. Gracie scored all three, though Angela was right there to tap in the third, her stick literally inches behind Gracie's to the rebound left in the crease. Lilly, having spent much of the week in the health center, had a number of chances also. Katie won faceoffs and scrapped for loose pucks all over the ice, both drawing and earning a penalty before the end of the game. All of our D did well to close gaps in the neutral zone and back up their partners, to block shots in front, and to begin making some breakout passes. Daphne made some big saves in goal, especially impressive since yesterday was her first time trying it. Unfortunately, we ran into another team with more experience and more team speed.
